The key areas of expertise in the group Research & Development Department at Ooms Nederland Holding are:

• development of new road construction products and the plants to manufacture them
• research into new laboratory testing methods
• development of special concepts for alternative constructions (pavement structure)
• supervision of the initial practical application of developed products and constructions.

The department is staffed by experts in many disciplines (civil engineering, chemistry, materials science, pavement technology, mechanical engineering, computer systems and construction) who work together closely in a laboratory with a comprehensive range of sophisticated equipment and calculation software. The testing sites and machinery available in the various Ooms Nederland Holding divisions also provide the opportunity for large-scale testing of new products.

• Road Energy Systems® (energy from asphalt)
• fuel-resistant bitumen and emulsions
• development of a pull-out test for asphalt reinforcement
• durable pavements for airport runways, taxiways and platforms
• mobile and semi-mobile bitumen modification units
• fluid-impermeable asphalt pavements
• specifications for asphalt reinforcement products
• contribution to the European development of the microscopic analysis method for polymer bitumen/polymer asphalt mix quality
• simulation test for damage to asphalt reinforcement during asphalt compaction.
